DREXEL HERITAGE UPHOLSTERY
SPARKLES WITH STYLE AND SUMPTUOUS COLOR
High Point, NC (October 1, 2007)—Drexel Heritage brings style, sparkle, and sumptuous color to its upholstery introductions premiering at the High Point Market. The company energizes its fabric line with new patterns brimming with up-to-the-minute vitality and showcases them on a host of new silhouettes that take tradition to a new level of sophistication.
“Our goal is to design the most exciting frames, dress them in the most wonderful fabrics, and show them off in settings that are both stylish and inviting,” says Lenwood Rich, Drexel Heritage President. “To accomplish this, we’re adding over 60 new upholstery frames and 125 new fabrics this market.”
The frames come in many styles with many pedigrees. Chairs cover the range from French fauteuils, English wing backs, and neoclassical pull-ups to laid-back designs with Charles of London arms. Sofas include sheltered backs, tufted backs, bustle backs—in straight, curved, and sloped silhouettes. There are eye-catching benches, matching ottomans and loveseats, and one stunning upholstered bed.
You cannot miss the graceful styling, the subtle nuances of the silhouettes; or the detailed embellishments—nail head trim, double stitched welts, dressmaker pleats, button accents, and generous tufting. “Whether your taste runs to formal or not-so formal, traditional or contemporary, there’s something here for you,” adds Rich. Here are the highlights:
In the top-of-the-line Heritage assortment, it’s all about elegance and sophistication. Thick, plush chenilles, luxurious velvets, and exquisitely detailed jacquards are sparked with embroidered silks and dazzling geometrics that incorporate metallic yarns. Colors
include mustard, dark chocolate (accented with pistachio green), cream and taupe, as well as paprika with accents of sage and gold. There are also touches of blue—from porcelain to navy. Animal skins, which are great correlates because they don’t have to “match” in the traditional sense, enliven the settings. By concentrating on the softer side of the color palette and choosing silhouettes right out of the memory bank, the company creates a fresh Today look that embraces tradition.
The overall Mixers upholstery statement reads Easy Living. It’s the result of casual fabrics draped on comfy, laid-back frames. Here you’ll see whitewashed textures, colorful patterns, geometric cottons, and a bevy of playful novelty designs. Accent fabrics featuring crewel, a quilted leaf motif, and a woven raffia-like material provide dimensional texture. The color story is one of lively contrasts: red with apple green; butter cream with terracotta; green with black; and charcoal with grey and mineral blue. (See separate Mixers press release.)
European Retreat Upholstery
Time honored jacquards, luxurious chenille stripes, and touch-me leathers capture the Old World essence of the European Retreat collection. These covers are teamed with menswear herringbone, a perennial favorite that adds a decorative spark to the overall tailored and textured look. Colors such as rich garnet and gold walk hand-in-hand with espresso and copper. These fabrics—with their age-old constructions woven in rich, luminous colors—convey a classic elegance that is always in style. (See separate European Retreat press release.)
Lillian August Upholstery
Ms. August creates a spirited, sophisticated upholstery grouping, combining fabrications and palettes with refined tonal colorations for a menswear feel. Glorious gray and pool-blue are two of the foundation colors, and when mixed with sensuous silks and velvets complete a luxurious aesthetic that is truly irresistible. Sofa silhouettes include the Chanel-styled Edgemont, the Chesterfield-styled Thompson, a modified Chesterfield-styled Adler, and the English roll-arm Chapman. The Drexel Options category includes a mix of traditional styles that evoke a casual, comfortable ambience. Luxurious chenilles, soft velvets, and cozy bouclés suggest the body-caressing comfort of a favorite bath robe. The spectrum of colors moves smoothly from mellow moss greens to coppery hues to fireside reds and spring greens. These designs tempt us with their intoxicating come-and-sit-awhile look.
