It’s just a few days into 2021 so any New Year’s resolutions that you made are still fresh. The whole concept of making resolutions when the year changes started in ancient Babylon some 4,000 years ago; the Babylonians were the ones who made promises to their gods so they can be bestowed with favors.

The practice of making New Year’s resolutions was also evident among Romans. January is the month that was named after Janus, the two-faced god, who looked backwards and straight into the future. The Romans promised to behave well in the coming year as they made offerings to this god.
The earliest Christians had the tradition of assessing their past mistakes and having the resolve to do better with each New Year. John Wesley, an English clergyman, founded Methodism which had watch night services.
The watch night services held each New Year’s Eve were often done with prayers and making - you guessed right - resolutions.
Make Life-Altering New Year's Resolutions
01. Make A Firm Resolve to Change
The holiday season has just passed and a lot of individuals are reevaluating their choices in life - and rightfully so. After all, the start of a new year is a wonderful opportunity to begin making changes. Most people refer to it as New Year's resolutions.
But if you’re thinking of resolutions as mere opportunities for change or making organizing solutions, then we’ll have to improve that perspective a bit. It can also be an avenue for happiness and eventual closeness in your family.
One of the life-changing resolutions that you can promise is to spend more time with your family. Another is to improve the communication in your home.
A third probable resolution is to spend fewer hours on your gadgets and to be nicer to other people.
Now here are some tips that will help you remain steadfast in keeping your 2021 resolutions -
Unattainable goals remain not acted upon. For example, promising not to eat cake again (when it is actually one of your favorite foods) is sure to end up in failure. Set a goal that is workable such as eating a slice of cake only during special occasions.
Also, instead of taking on a remodeling project for your entire home, you can just start with the bathroom for the first few months then move on to other rooms in your home as the year progresses.
Decide how you will practice positive thinking this year or to exercise more. Outline some strategies that will help you achieve your set goals. Never keep your New Year's resolutions a secret. Let your family and friends know about it so they can support you.
Know the Pros and Cons
It will surely help that you list the items that will motivate you to keep going. Keep developing this list over time and if you can ask your family to contribute some more, then do so.
Establish A Reward System
Celebrate successes no matter how small they may be. Just make sure that they do not go against your resolution (e.g. rewarding yourself with a box of red velvet cake or a tub of ice cream when your resolution is actually to diet).
Track Your Progress
Just as important as establishing a reward system is to track your overall success. The more that you see your progress, the more motivated you will be to continue your resolution.
And no matter what happens, promise yourself to stick to your resolutions.
There are many health benefits to getting rid of clutter including being able to sleep better, stress and anxiety reduction, ridding your home of allergens, etc. Make it one of your New Year's resolutions to declutter.
Look around. It is not impossible to see stuff just sitting around that you haven't used in a long, long while. While keeping them there won't harm you per se, the benefits of getting rid of them far outweigh the need to hold on to them.
Here are some McCreery's Home Furnishings tips to make decluttering a lot easier:
Begin in just one area. The bedroom perhaps? If you've had storage cabinets full of bedding, then it's time to sort them out. That drawer under the sink definitely needs an inspection.
Categorize. Know which pieces will be kept, donated, recycled, sold, or thrown.
Store. Another way to keep clutter at bay is to learn to store unused and seasonal items in cabinets, chests, drawers, and other storage units.
03. Plan to Redesign or Remodel Your Sacramento Home
First, your home is a representation of you. If your house already looks worn down or old, then it easily affects your overall psyche. There are many reasons why you should bring out the true potential of your home.
Having a new look for the New Year is a good reason to redesign. The level of freshness or newness will certainly breathe a new life to a tired-looking space.
A second reason to redo your Sacramento interior design is to set up a space where you’ll be motivated to become productive (if it’s a home office) or be well rested when you’re setting up a bedroom.
Adding depth and dimension to a space is as easy as reexamining the current design elements. An upgrade is also the answer to a home that’s been ravaged by pets over the years. Having a home that’s been decorated for kids also needs to be updated when it's time to become an empty nester. It would be shocking to still find cartoon character wallpaper inside your 15-year old son’s room.
Purging clutter could also be the reason behind a simple redecoration. Or it could be to try the look that’s being offered by a new interior designer in Sacramento.
04. Scout for New Year Sale Events
McCreery's Home Furnishings holds many knockout fine furniture sale events throughout the year. We begin 2021 with a bang as we offer a 35% discount on all Walnut Grove pieces by Stickley Furniture.
Now's a great time to jump-start your Sacramento interior design project.
05. Shop for Fine Furniture
People change furniture if they want to maintain or increase the level of comfort in their lives. After all, these pieces are needed for you to sit on, sleep in, and for you to store stuff in.
But there are also reasons to go beyond the basics. You could remodel if, say, you’ve moved to a new state and the climate there caused you to invest in a complete new set of fine furniture.
You can also add different styles or sizes of furniture depending on your family's or your current needs. Moving in together or getting married is also a reason to add furnishings or to buy a new furniture set. A different kind of bed might be needed or a bigger couch becomes the requirement.
If you’re shopping for whatever reason, we’ve got you covered. Remember that our Stickley Furniture Walnut Grove Collection is on sale until January 31, 2021.
